Abstract

soul, that core of sensibility in us which recognizes and registers meaningful; and he sees task of psychology not as strengthening of the ego, nor as individuation of the self, but as nurturing of the soul. Soul-making, as he terms it, is intensifying of significance of life in face of death, and the deepening of events into experiences ... through reflective speculation, dream, image, and fantasy-that mode which recognizes all realities as primarily symbolic or metaphorical (Re-Visioning Psychology, p. x). His overhauling of his discipline is based on a psychology of image.
