How to write a recommendation

Alan D. Wilcox Bucknell University

Abstract

Writing an effective recommendation requires an understanding of the reader and his specific needs. A “recommendation outline” is presented here which will meet those needs and also ease the burden of preparing the recommendation itself. In addition to the outline, two sample letters of recommendation are presented.
