Profiling: A functional aid to effective communication

Ashis Gupta University of Calgary

Abstract

Profiling is an aspect of audience analysis that enables a communicator to develop a strategy of communication along several dimensions. This paper describes a systematic approach to profiling, using an interesting “slice of life” to illustrate the point. With certain modifications, similar approaches can be devised by the reader for virtually any situation presenting a need to communicate.
