Abstract

Two columns from a series are reprinted: One is about using hard words and the other is about tight editing. Context clues can be used to explain unfamiliar terms and make technical language clear to readers. Six methods are described. Tight editing means not only concise articles but also, for periodicals, either extra space or lower production costs. Five recommendations for producing terse text are included.
