Double speak in America

Abstract

Mario Pei discusses several sets of “weasel words.” Be on your guard, this author warns: these are words “used and misused not through habit, inadvertence, and accident, but coined or distorted, and then put into circulation by deliberate design, for purposes of deception” (p. 1). His earlier book on the same subject was called Words in Sheep's Clothing.
