Technical topic, lay audience: How to make a good presentation

Abstract

Steps can be taken by a speaker to improve his presentation of a technical topic to a lay audience and make the subject more understandable to the listener. These steps stress the use of (1) much advance peparation, (2) informative exercises, entertaining stories, and simple drawings, (3) examples picked to fit the audience, and (4) a changing style depending on audience reaction. Giving attention to these points will help to make the presentation successful for both the speaker and the listener.
