Abstract
Within the context of the printer-publisher relationship, which is a partnership, each needs to develop an understanding of the functional requirements of a journal on one hand and the printer's capabilities on the other. Jointly, the specifications can be developed to optimize the use of equipment and still meet the publisher's needs. For properly designed work, the economic breakeven in terms of job size is quite low (no more than two to three thousand copies of a 96-page book) for web versus sheetfed printing.
