Choosing between Isocrates and Aristotle: Disciplinary Assumptions and Pedagogical Implications

Abstract

Abstract This essay examines several disciplinary and pedagogical assumptions behind Aristotle's centrality in the classical rhetorical canon and calls for a reconsideration of the established hierarchical relation of Aristotle to Isocrates.
