Abstract
A comparison is made of what happens at present in the copying of copyrighted material in academic and special libraries with what changes will be needed when the Copyright Law of 1976 becomes effective. Compliance with the CONTU guidelines will assure continued interlibrary lending. Warning signs, copyright stamps, and revised user request forms are needed to assure that copying purposes comply with the law. Copying for classroom purposes will need to be clarified. The stricter requirements for copying by special libraries are cited. Copying by paying royalties when infringement is likely can be done in several ways. An alphabetical index to appropriate sections of the copyright law and the House of Representatives report, as well as the CONTU and classroom-use guidelines, is included in an appendix.
