The National Technical Information Service (NTIS) has instituted, on an experimental basis with professional society and commercial publishers, a clearinghouse service to provide its customers with simplified access to journal article copies. NTIS handles the orders, bookkeeping, and transfer of payments while referring the copy-requests to existing-collection sources known to have the material needed for order fulfillment.
